Stylish, unusual looks, the view out, versatility, safety features, ride quality, handling, equipment
Highish prices, slightly weak diesel performance, lack of low gear ratios and/or hill descent control, notchy gearchange.

Just like its two-wheel-drive relations, the RX4 provides a very pleasant ride for all its occupants, and it is extremely practical. Everyone will enjoy the view provided by the high-mounted seats and generous glazing. It's well equipped, too. It also mops up bumps well, off-road or on, thanks to the elevated ride height and forgiving suspension. The boot is enormous, the three rear seats can be folded, swapped around or removed, there are loads of storage cubbies and the whole cabin feels light and airy. It's a full five-seater, and even longer-legged passengers will be comfy. A 60-watt CD radio is standard, of decent quality and user-friendly design. Further aftermarket upgrades can be fitted.
