Roomy, well equipped, some great engines; Grand Scenic is more flexible, Conquest is a blast to drive.
Lifeless steering, bulky.
Excellent way to transport your family.

The diesel engines are, true to form, more economical and cleaner than the petrols. The best is the 86bhp 1.5 diesel, which returns a combined fuel consumption figure of 55.4mpg and a carbon dioxide output of 137g/km. Worst is the 2.0-litre petrol Grand Scenic, which uses fuel at a rate of 34.4mpg and emits 193g/km of CO2. The 106bhp version of the 1.5 diesel comes into band C for road tax purposes, whereas the 1.9 and 2.0 diesels are both in band D.
When it comes to insurance the Scenic undercuts its key rivals by starting at group 4, although that applies only to the 1.4 petrol engine and the puniest diesel, which we wouldn't recommend. If you go for one of the more sensible engines you're looking at group 5 or 6, which is where the C4 Picasso starts.
Repair and servicing costs should be reasonable. Intervals vary from model to model, and can be as much as 18,000 miles.
