Smart looks, spacious cabin, clever interior, feeling of quality, decent boot.
Firm ride, not the most exciting car to drive, some wind noise, awkward rear seat removal.
Renault refines if not revolutionises the compact MPV genre.

Cheapest to run in the five-seat Renault MPV range will be the two 1.5 dCi powered Scenics. Both versions average a fine 57.6mpg while emitting just 130g/km of carbon dioxide.
Next up for low running costs is the larger 1.9 dCi that returns 51.4mpg and emits 145g/km of CO2. Opt for the most powerful 158bhp 2.0 diesel and expect to average 42.8mpg while emitting 173g/km of CO2.
Best for costs out of the petrol line-up isn't the entry-level 1.6, but the new small turbocharged 128bhp 1.4 TCe, that averages a decent 39.8mpg while emitting 168g/km of CO2. The CVT-only range-topping 2.0-litre petrol meanwhile makes do with 36.7mpg average and carbon dioxide emissions of 183g/km.
To help lower costs even further Renault has increased servicing schedules across the Scenic range to once every 18,000 miles or every two years, whichever comes sooner.
