Category: Compact MPV
Price Range: £14,395 to £24,245
People/load-carrying versatility, compact size, keen pricing
Obsolete because new model launched 2003; DTi diesel is noisy; some reliability problems
Still a good mobility solution

As with all MPVs, power steering and a high driving position make for easy manoeuvring, and the Scenic has the added bonus of occupying no more road space than a small hatchback. The driving position is comfortably car-like, the dashboard is well laid-out, and the gearchange is easy. The fun comes more from your high vantage point and sociability with your passengers than from any innate sportiness, of which the Scenic has little. It corners with typical French fluidity, though.
Performance from the entry level engines is adequate, giving little reason to go for the 1.6 over the 1.4 16-valve. The 1.9 DCi turbo-diesel is strong, lively and refined, and the 2.0 16-valve is pretty fast too, though the Scenic's still no sports car.
