New free-revving 1.4-litre petrol engine, quiet motorway cruiser, car-like handling, comfy cabin.
Firm ride, rubbery steering feel, notchy gearchange.
Practical and comfortable, but top-of-the-range models don't represent good value.

The nicely behaved model in this Grand Scenic bunch is the 1.5-litre 106bhp diesel, which emits just 135g/km of CO2, which is class-leading, beating similarly powered rivals such as the Volkswagen Touran Bluemotion and the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso.
We haven't driven the 1.5 yet but you could be forgiven for thinking that this might be somewhat sluggish, and a tad noisy. Still, we reserve judgement on that.
If you should choose our recommended model - the 1.4-litre petrol - you'll be pumping out carbon dioxide emissions at a rate of 173g/km, which puts it in Band I for road tax and you'll return a respectful 39.8mpg average. The 2.0-litre 160bhp diesel we tried emits the same and returns 42.8mpg.
The 1.4-litre engine in Privilege trim is in the 22% Benefit-in-Kind company car tax bracket and the 2.0-litre in the same trim, is in the 25% bracket.
Insurance shouldn't be too onerous: the previous car was rated between groups 6 and 10 and we expect the same rating for this new generation.
