Looks good, roomy cabin, excellent crash test results, 1.5 dCi diesel engine
Choppy ride, weedy 1.2 petrol, sluggish auto, not much rear legroom or boot space.
One of the better-looking mini-MPVs and a good family motoring solution - with the right engine.

A five-star Euro NCAP crash test score for occupant safety, four stars for child protection (with the Renault-approved child seats) though just one star for pedestrian protection. The Modus also feels reassuringly solid.
Two front and side airbags are standard-fit, along with ABS anti-lock brakes, ISOFIX child seat attachment points, seatbelt pretensioners and height-adjustable front seatbelts. Upper-spec models add side curtain airbags for head protection, and range-topping versions have adaptive front headlights, with a swivelling beam to 'see' around bands.
Renault scores reasonably well in security ratings, and this is reflected in low insurance groupings (from 2E for the 1.2 16v and 1.5 dCi 65).
