Renault Modus (2004-) Review

Category: Superminis 3 out of 5

Summary of the Renault Modus (2004-)

Price Range: £10,335 to £13,235

Assets

Looks good, roomy cabin, excellent crash test results, 1.5 dCi diesel engine

Drawbacks

Choppy ride, weedy 1.2 petrol, sluggish auto, not much rear legroom or boot space.

Sum-up

One of the better-looking mini-MPVs and a good family motoring solution - with the right engine.

Renault Modus Review

Reliability and Quality2 out of 5

The Modus has so far suffered a few problems with blown turbos (the diesel engine) and oil circulation, as well as issues with its electrics and electronics, a perennial Renault bugbear.

Renault's automatic and Quickshift gearboxes have also been problematic in other models. The Modus looks well-finished, without any obvious build defects or glaring nastiness, but as with other Renault ranges, the carpets and seat fabrics can look a bit cheap in entry-level versions. Range-topping models are sumptuously-upholstered, though.
