Efficient engines, more upmarket cabin, competitively priced.
Bland looks, dull drive, not as spacious as some rivals.
A competent family car with frugal diesel engines, but it's pretty uninspiring and certainly not a class leader.

Renault has deliberately stripped the latest Megane of anything approaching va-va-voom, with this estate model continuing the conservative styling seen in the saloon.
It's a straight-laced and rather uninspiring looking car designed to be an inoffensive safe bet. Renault's decided that many potential buyers were turned off the last Megane by its unconventional fat-arsed design, so it didn't want to take risks with the new model. The only hint of spice comes in the form of an optional sports body kit and 17" alloy wheels: it makes the Megane Estate look a bit plusher, but doesn't make it stand out.
But will buyers of small family estates care, especially when the new Megane Estate raises the bar when it comes to crash safety standards and is generously equipped? It's also likely to be cheap to run, with a wide range of dCi diesel engines boasting big fuel consumption figures and low CO2 emissions.
So is the new Megane Estate good enough to take on the VW Golf and Ford Focus estates? Read on to find out.
