Sublime handling, incredible grip, bargain pricetag.
Poor practicality for a hatchback, lack of radio and soundproofing make Megane tiring over long distances.
Raw and uncompromised R26.R will be too much for most. Shame, because it's one of the finest hot hatches to have ever turned a wheel in anger.

Deleting the passenger and curtain airbags sounds like very bad news, especially when considering the rest of the 'old' Megane range basked in the warm glow of a five star Euro NCAP rating for adult occupancy.
However, we think the R26.R will protect its occupants well. Driver and passenger benefit from six-point race harnesses to hold them in place, while an optional £700 rollcage will provide extra protection.
One concern about those special optional Toyo tyres: despite being absolutely stunning in the dry we've heard reports that they are only 'ok' in the wet and standing water can cause heart-in-mouth aquaplaning moments. Care is needed.
