Renault Megane (1996-2002) Review

Category: Small Family 3.5 out of 5

Summary of the Renault Megane (1996-2002)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Distinctively styled and comfortable, the Megane offers a good blend of performance and economy, excellent safety performance and fine value for money.

Drawbacks

Not the most attractive of front ends, and the Megane's not as entertaining on twisty roads as some rivals, questionable quality feel of interior.

Verdict

Not quite as accomplished as the Ford Focus or VW Golf, but it's usefully cheaper, better equipped and pleasant to own. Deservedly popular.

Renault Megane Coupe-Cabriolet Review

Overview3.5 out of 5

The popular Megane has an excellent mix of comfort, room and compactness, versatility and style, low running costs, equipment and value for money. It was revised in 1999, the changes giving it a new grille, some improved engines and a better quality interior. The Megane is part of a large family that includes the Scenic people carrier, a convertible, a coupe and a four-door saloon (the Scenic and Coupe are reviewed separately). Now replaced by the Megane II Hatch, this model looks conservative in comparison, but it's still an excellent second-hand purchase, and suits many buyers for whom the new model is just too radical-looking.
