Renault Grand Modus Review

Running Costs5 out of 5

The dCi 67 diesel returns an excellent 60.1mpg with carbon dioxide emissions at a low-tax 125g/km, but the dCi 85 is actually cleaner and more economical yet: 62.8mpg and 119g/km with either manual or Quickshift gearboxes, putting it into tax Band B and thus making it exempt from the London congestion charge and eligible for other local incentives. The dCi 105 also returns 60.1mpg and 125g/km.

The 1.2 Turbo 99 is cheaper to run than the 1.4-litre unit it replaces in the Renault line-up, returning a decent 47.8mpg and 140g/km - the same as the non-turbo 74bhp 1.2. The 1.6 auto does 37.1mpg and 184g/km, and is best avoided unless you really must have a petrol engine - the 1.5 dCi Quickshift is both a better drive and more economical.
