Price Range: £11,275 to £14,575

Drawbacks

Slightly awkward-looking, weedy petrol engines, interior not as roomy or versatile as the Nissan Note's.

Verdict

A useful and appealing small family car.

Renault Grand Modus Review

Safety and Security5 out of 5

The shorter Modus has scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests, with four stars for child protection, but just one star for pedestrian protection. The Grand Modus should be similarly strong and protective.

Standard equipment (Expression trim) includes front and side airbags, with cut-off switch for the front passenger seat airbags (although most safety experts recommend that children be placed in the rear), rear Isofix child seat mounting points and remote central locking with deadlocks. Dynamique trim (or the Protection option pack) adds curtain airbags, seatbelt pretensioners for the outer rear seats and front foglights. Further options also include stability control and cornering-beam headlights.
