Good looks, image, safety, very stable handling, ride and refinement close to class best.
Just not that much fun to drive. Performance limited, and the steering uninvolving
Feels more than one step removed from the car it replaced.

Renault has achieved a five star EuroNCAP crash test rating for the Clio even before it goes on sale, and while that does not make it unique in its class - the odd Peugeot 1007 can boast as much, as can the 2006 Fiat Punto - it does mean that should you hit something, you should at least be able to crash in five-star comfort. Three-door Clios have six standard airbags, including two anti-submarining bags in the front seats, while curtain airbags are a £200 option. Curiously, the five-door Clio has only four standard airbags, the repositioned B pillar obviating the need for the seat bags.
