Excellent engine, good steering and handling, great performance, those looks
Clio-ish interior, limited luggage space, not cheap
Distinctive, fast and highly entertaining niche product

Unlike some of its rally-car inspired rivals, the Clio doesn't demand a visit to the chiropractor every time you stumble across a cattle grid. The ride is fairly compliant - perhaps a smidgeon jiggly around town - and there's no tugging at the wheel or annoying tramlining under braking. Hmmm. Well, the front seats are big enough. And there's a glovebox. Actually, we're being silly - there's a 67-litre squashy-bag holder beneath the bonnet and there are two storage nets behind the seats. There's no spare wheel, mind; cans of get-me-home spray will have to do. Okay, we'll level with you. We didn't actually listen to the stereo. When you've got a 3.0-litre V6 about two feet behind your head, you don't really need a stereo. However, it's got a single-disc CD player in the dash, and a six-disc CD changer under the passenger seat, so you can't say fairer than that. Sat-nav isn't an option on this hot hatch.
