Renault Clio RenaultSport 172 (2001-2003) Review

Category: Hot Hatchbacks 4 out of 5

Summary of the Renault Clio RenaultSport 172 (2001-2003)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Good value for money, stonking performance for the price, high credibility with the boys, lots of grip and decent agility.

Drawbacks

Not terribly refined or spacious, plenty of torque-steer.

Verdict

Sometimes a hoot, sometimes a bore, the Clio 172 is a hot-hatch of the old-school. You've gotta like it though.

Renault Clio RenaultSport Review

Reliability and Quality4 out of 5

Short of the best this class has to offer. The VW Polo GTI feels better on the inside, although the Clio does have some metallic inserts to raise its high-tech and sporting feel a little. The dashboard's soft-feel finish is no match for the thumpy hard rubber of the Volkswagen's, though, and there's too much cheap plastic, especially on the door pillars. The Clio is not immune to the odd rattle and squeak, either, but as the 2001-facelifted model is an update of the previous version rather than an all-new model, it should benefit from having had a few years' worth of development already.
