Porsche image and engineering, fine on-road behaviour, surprising off-road ability.
Not as exciting or economical as you'd like - and is an Audi-engined SUV really a Porsche?
A well-engineered, quality product, though the world doesn't really need it.

Porsche expects this diesel to become its best-selling Cayenne in the UK, thanks to its 30.4mpg average fuel economy.
This is some way better than the petrol V6's 21.9mpg, or indeed, the 385bhp Turbo S V8's 20.6mpg, but given the higher price of diesel fuel, the difference in overall running costs won't be quite as substantial as you'd expect. The 620-mile maximum range between refuelling stops is good, however.
And with carbon dioxide emissions of 244g/km, the Cayenne Diesel is still in tax band G (currently £400 a year) along with the petrol models. This brings with it penalties in some areas in terms of more expensive parking permits, and future levies on Band G cars are only set to increase. There may also be future tax penalties for diesels which do not meet the upcoming Euro 5 emissions legislation (this V6 only meets the current Euro 4 standard, and Euro 3 in some markets, despite its particulate filter and catalyst system).
Is there really incentive enough to opt for this diesel? Given that purchase, parts, Porsche servicing, insurance and other running costs will be high anyway as well you may as well go for a petrol version that's a little more authentically a 'proper' Porsche.
