Category: Exotic Sports 4 out of 5

Summary of the Porsche 911 Carrera S Powerkit (2007-)

Price Range: £61,744 to £128,307

Assets

Powerkit's added pace; incredible traction; powerful brakes.

Drawbacks

Powerkit's extra cost pitches the Carrera S head-to-head with sublime Audi R8 and comes off worse.

Verdict

Appealing, if costly; stop-gap until the new direct injection engine range arrives.

Porsche 911 Review

Safety and Security5 out of 5

The first line of Porsche's active safety is its outstanding dynamics, which give the driver the ability to avoid the accident in the first place.

Add to this the Porsche Stability Management system, which helps rein things in when the system detects one or other end of the car sliding off the cornering line. And then there are the brakes (ABS equipped, of course), which are just sensational in their ability to bring the 911 quickly down from colossal speed. For those who feel they need something extra in this department, Porsche offers the ceramic composite items, which give even more stopping power for those owners taking to the track.

The 911's passive safety system uses six airbags, with the two-stage 'bags for the driver and passenger, as well as a thorax bag on the outer side of the front seat armrests and an innovative head airbag that protects occupants from debris in the car or from hitting the car's windows.

An alarm and immobiliser are standard-fit.
