Distinctive styling, strong diesel line-up, pedestrian safety; good ride.
Rear seat and boot space, heavier than predecessor, complex electronics not a Peugeot strong point.
Combines high style with a hugely competent chassis and good all-round capabilities.

The biggest cost in running the 407, just as it is with its mainstream rivals, is depreciation. To be fair, though, this is unlikely to be of concern to the majority of 407 customers, who are probably going to be company car drivers anyway.
As always, Peugeot's excellent diesels are frugal and emit less noxious emissions, particularly with the latest generation particulate filters. The popular 2.0 HDi, for example, returns a creditable 47.9mpg, and produces a low 155g/km of CO2 emissions, thus making it relatively tax-friendly.
