Price Range: £18,045 to £24,295

Assets

Fine ride, good to drive, generous standard equipment.

Verdict

Fine-driving 407 remains a good car, just one that's outshone by its main competitors.

Peugeot 407 Review

Overview3 out of 5

The deck of cards has been well and truly been stacked against the Peugeot 407.

As the large French family car gracefully nears middle age it's had to fend off a barrage of talented new competition from Ford, Mazda, Honda and, soon, Vauxhall - all out to chip away at the 20,000 407s sold a year.

To level the playing field and fight back against the Vectra-replacing Insignia, the French firm has called in the surgeons for a quick nip and a tuck.

Question is, will the UK buyers notice the revised grilles, new rear lamps, chrome painted rub-strips, mock rear diffuser and the new 'piano black' plastic dash? We're not so sure, but company car buyers might.

In comes a value-packed SR-trim, along with a cleaner tweaked line of diesels and the availability of a biofuel-powered 407 for the first time.

So what's it like on the road? Past its sell-by-date?

It would be unwise to write it off. The original Peugeot 407 was one of our favourite cars in the class so surely it must still be among the repmobile heavy hitters.
