Category: Hot Hatchbacks
Price Range: £13,495 to £21,945
Smooth punchy sweet-spinning lag-free engine, good ride/handling balance.
Expensive, not particularly sporting.
The sportiest 308 yet is not really that hot, but it's usable and cheap to run.

For a petrol car with a 140mph top speed the 308 GT 175 averages a very respectable 37.1mpg and emits 180g/km of carbon dioxide.
Against similarly priced hot hatches this gives the Peugeot a significant advantage and means the 308 GT will be far more relevant to company car users who face the CO2-linked taxation. Its closest competitor, the aforementioned Golf 1.4 TFSi averages 38.7mpg and pollutes to the tune of 174g/km CO2. Once again, the Golf trumps the 308 GT.
The 308 GT, like the rest of the small hatch range, benefits from the lengthy two-year 20,000 mile service intervals, which should further reducing running costs.
