Peugeot 207 CC (2007-) Review

Category: Convertibles 4 out of 5

Summary of the Peugeot 207 CC (2007-)

Price Range: £16,695 to £19,245

Assets

Good-looking, looks better-built than 206 CC, a decently sporting drive

Drawbacks

No super-quick version on offer, rear seats still useless

Verdict

The 207 CC's less toy-like than the 206 CC: it feels and drives like a proper car. Less cutesy and girlie, too.

Peugeot 207 CC Review

Comfort and Equipment3.5 out of 5

Best treat those rear seats as extra luggage space; Peugeot is quite honest in describing them as 'offering the possibility of carrying one or even two people in the back for a short journey' - but it had better be a short trip, or with passengers very desperate for a lift. With the front seats even only part-way back, there is no legroom, and it'll be quite a wriggle to climb in there. It is marginally roomier in the back than in the 206 CC, but that's not saying much.

Boot space is good for a coupe-convertible, though: 449 litres with the roof up, and 187 litres with the roof down, the luggage carried underneath a fold-out cover. More than enough space to carry bags for a weekend away, anyway (unless you're planning hourly outfit-changes), even before you take into account the rear-seat space for more bags. There's a well-sized glove box, too, as well as seat-back pockets, door pockets and a useful centre console.

There's some road noise and wind noise at speed with the roof up, but the 207 CC does generally feel well sealed and insulated with its hard shell and glass rear window. Roof-down, occupants are well-protected from buffeting even without the optional wind-deflector, as the high windows can keep all but a pleasant breeze at bay. It's immensely civilised - though of course, you can lower the windows all the way down for the full open-top effect if you choose. The ride is firm but not jolting and jarring; the GT spec adds 17" wheels, which do make for a harder ride than the standard 16s.

Standard ('Sport') kit (1.6 16v or 1.6 HDI) is generous, and includes four electric windows, air conditioning, front fog lamps, remote central locking, a CD player, electric mirrors and black or grey cloth upholstery.

GT specification, a £1,200 option and standard with the 1.6 THP engine, adds the aluminium grille, stability control, directional headlights, ESP, rear parking sensors, 17" alloy wheels, automatic dual-zone air conditioning, a leather steering wheel, an electrochromatic anti-dazzle rear-view mirror, electrically-folding door mirrors, an MP3-compatible audio system, carpet mats and a heat-reflecting windscreen, plus white-faced instrument dials, aluminium door sill kickplates, a tinted rear screen, and aluminium pedals.

Further options include leather upholstery (black, black/red, tan brown/black or pale grey), the wind deflector, a fragrance diffuser (not recommended unless you have a particular liking for sickly air freshener odours), Bluetooth phone kit, and various stereo and stereo/sat nav upgrades.
