Quality, looks, decent performance.
Freelander has better image; not much else.
Comfort upgrades make this a serious threat to Freelander's market domination.

Should prove pretty reasonable, actually. Because sales volumes aren't huge in the first instance, demand should keep used values strong; better than other Nissans, at any rate. Fuel economy of around 30mpg for petrol and 40mpg for diesel models is competitive. Check insurance groups: at the time of writing, they hadn't been confirmed. Likely to make somebody a very good used buy. Nissan reliability is first-rate and the X-Trail should prove cheaper and more dependable than a Freelander, if customer satisfaction surveys are anything to go by.
The X-Trail is very competitively priced against its rivals. The SE base model comes with electric windows all-round, climate control, coolbox, CD player and remote locking with alarm. Sport trim adds a CD changer, alloy wheels, sunroof and some cosmetic additions. SVE and T-Spec top the range and include a few extras: SVE gets electric, heated, leather seats and heated mirrors; T-Spec has DVD satellite navigation fitted. Sport is probably the best-value model.
