Weight again will play a role in damaging the Qashqai+2's case against its already more conventional economical alternatives.

The 2.0-litre petrol's fuel consumption is an unimpressive 33.6mpg while the diesel's stands 40.4mpg. carbon dioxide emissions, meanwhile, for both are 197g/km for the petrol and 188g/km for the diesel, meaning both will live in VED Band F for road tax.

So how does that compare? A 2.0-litre petrol Focus returns six more miles to a gallon and is a tax band cheaper than the petrol-powered Qashqai, while a diesel 4x4 Honda CR-V returns over 3mpg more and sits also in a band VED lower than the all-wheel drive Qashqai.
