Category: Small Family
Price Range: £10,295 to £14,195
Loads of rear legroom and luggage space, affordable and unpretentious.
Small range to choose from, engines can be noisy.
Like the Renault Modus, only roomier - a very useful family car.

The Note is built in Sunderland, but although this British factory has a very good record for turning out durable, reliable vehicles, some of the (pre-production) test cars had poorly fitted and rough-edged interior trim, which suggests attention to detail isn't quite there yet. The finish quality of the cars for customers - when production is fully up and running - should be better.
The Note shares many of its components with the Micra, as well as the latest Clio and the Modus, and these cars have generally been reliable so far - bar electrical/electronic issues, mainly with the Micra's keyless entry/ignition system or the multiplex wiring set-up. These glitches should now be sorted, so the Note should be pretty dependable, as it's all tried-and-tested mechanically.
