Good-looking, a decent drive, a useful and user-friendly family vehicle.
Not a hardcore off-roader, nor a high-image status symbol.
A very viable, and even quite sensible, alternative to the traditional estate car that can also go off-road.

The Outlander scored a respectable, if not outstanding, four-star result in the Euro NCAP crash tests for overall adult occupant protection, commended for its side impact performance. It achieved three out of four for child protection, but just two stars for pedestrian protection.
However, entry-level Equippe versions don't have side airbags, which, with full-length head-protecting curtain airbags, come with the Warrior and Elegance spec levels. All models have stability control, a must in a high-riding SUV like this, and all seven seats (where fitted) have three-point seatbelts. Security-wise, there's the usual immobiliser and an alarm.
