Category: Sporting 4x4s
Price Range: £19,999 to £27,999
Good-looking, a decent drive, a useful and user-friendly family vehicle.
Not a hardcore off-roader, nor a high-image status symbol.
A very viable, and even quite sensible, alternative to the traditional estate car that can also go off-road.

The previous Outlander did not score well in US reliability surveys, suffering a number of glitches, but after a few years of financial problems and embarrassing recalls, Mitsubishi appears to have turned the corner.
Traditionally, its vehicles were always mechanically tough and durable - especially the Shogun/Pajero 4x4s - and it seems to have got back on track. The VW diesel engine shouldn't give any problems, either.
All seems well put-together in the Outlanders we've seen so far, and while it doesn't have the interior finish of, say, an Audi Q7 (a far more expensive vehicle, of course) it's nicely done for a car in the £20,000-£25,000 price bracket. The cabin is plain, dark and simply designed, with no obviously cheapo touches.
