Fine engine, junior Evo looks, 4x4 traction, storming cross-country pace, decent ride.
Unresolved SST gearbox, expensive to run, cheap-feeling interior, no conventional manual option.
Capable, slightly oddball all-wheel-drive alternative to a more conventional hot hatch.

According to the most recent 2008 JD Power customer satisfaction survey, Mitsubishi has some of the least satisfied owners in the business, ranking 27th out of 28. The Lancer itself was the firm's best performing model, but even that could only place 45th out of 100.
But don't give up on Mitsubishi just yet. The results were based on previous-generation models and since then the firm has undergone a renaissance, so expect things to get much better.
It's also important to note most of the owner's complaints were also more to do with high running costs rather than reliability glitches.
Inside, the Lancer cabin has been vastly improved, although it still lags behind its competitors. Cars such as the Volkswagen Golf GTI make the Mitsubishi feel cheap and a little nasty in comparison.
