Mitsubishi L200 (2006-) Review

Category: Pick-ups 4 out of 5

Summary of the Mitsubishi L200 (2006-)

Price Range: No data available

Assets

Visually striking, roomy inside the double cab, best-driving pick-up out there, long list of equipment and accessories.

Drawbacks

Ride quality better but not great, short load bed, needs crude power chip to match rivals on performance.

Verdict

The best pick-up for UK driving conditions. A huge improvement on its predecessor.

Mitsubishi L200 Review

Safety and Security3 out of 5

Mitsubishi reckons that L200 could become the first one-tonne pick-up to achieve a four-star EuroNCAP crash test rating, but the lack of any side or curtain airbags will surely stymie that.

Just two airbags are standard, but there are Isofix child seat anchors and the facility to switch off the front passenger airbag.

Anti-lock brakes are also standard across the range, but the Warrior, Animal and Elegance all get Mitsubishi's stability control system, M-ASTC (Mitsubishi Active Stability and Traction Control), the first pick-up to offer this. If the sensors detect a skid, and it's quite likely when running in rear-wheel-drive, the system will automatically control the engine torque and apply the brakes to help the driver regain control.

An immobiliser is standard on every L200 and high series models (Warrior upwards) also benefit from an alarm system. The L200 is now also available with an optional tailgate lock, becoming the only pick-up after the Navara to offer one. It's an invaluable addition if you've got a hard-top or tonneau cover and want to secure tools in the back.
