Visually striking, roomy inside the double cab, best-driving pick-up out there, long list of equipment and accessories.
Ride quality better but not great, short load bed, needs crude power chip to match rivals on performance.
The best pick-up for UK driving conditions. A huge improvement on its predecessor.

Pick-ups are supposed to be tough, sturdy and indestructible and the L200 is unlikely to disappoint. A ladder frame chassis might not be the best choice for ride and handling, but it's as tough as old boots. Torsional rigidity is up 50% compared with the old model, which bodes well for its longevity. The L200 is manufactured in Thailand rather than Japan and feels well screwed-together.
Mitsubishi has also worked hard to improve the perceived quality, an area in which it has struggled in the past. The fit and finish of the interior is much better than the old model.
Of all the Japanese pick-ups, the old Mitsubishi L200 struggled most on the reliability front. That's partly because the old engine suffered at the hands of home-tuners, but even Mitsubishi's own power chip was criticised by some owners. Lessons learned should improve things this time around, even with the official 165bhp power upgrade.
