Mitsubishi i Review

Reliability and Quality3 out of 5

Mitsubishi has some form in this area: it has been working on electric vehicles since 1995. The i-MiEV has been under development since 2006 and Mitsubishi is confident it has tackled any teething troubles.

Even so, battery use still has to overcome certain hurdles. Cold weather, going up steep inclines and using the heater or air-con all reduce the 100-mile range. On one winter's day we used 50% of the charge after travelling just 20 miles.

Inside there's little difference between petrol and electric i cars. That means the dash is straightforward to look at and operate. But some of the plastics are scratchy and the overall feeling is that the money has been spent on the battery and motors rather than on the quality of the interior.
