Category: Hot Hatchbacks
Price Range: £7,999 to £12,849
Punchy engine, decent kit levels, sharp handling, cheap warranty package.
Overly firm ride, uninspiring cabin, poor steering.
May attract a few hardcore Mitsubishi fans but there are better hot-hatches at this price.

Mitsubishi is rightly proud of the standard safety equipment offered in the Colt Ralliart.
Anti-lock brakes, electronic brakeforce distrubition, stability and traction control are included at no extra cost. As in the rest of the Colt range the Ralliart features hazard lights that now flash under emergency braking. You get twin front and curtain airbags as standard, rear disc brakes and Isofix child seat fittings in the rear.
However, the story isn't all rosy. In 2005 the previous-generation car received a fine (back then) four stars for adult occupancy protection and three for child protection in Euro NCAP crash tests. However, almost all of its rivals now have better scores.
The pre-facelifted Colt received just one star in its ability to protect pedestrians in an impact, but this may improve with the 2009 model: Mitsubishi has reworked the headlamps, bonnet and bumper to reduce injuries to pedestrian in the event of accident. An alarm and immobiliser are standard-fit items.
