Energetic and refined engine, cheap to buy, well equipped.
Obtrusive A-pillars, small boot, fidgety ride, poor attention to detail.
Irritating foibles ruin an otherwise cheap and cheerful alternative to the usual superminis.

The supermini category is jam-packed with class acts.
The Vauxhall Corsa, the Mazda 2 and Renault Clio all set a high standard for buyers wanting something practical, stylish and nice to drive. Then the bar was raised even higher with the arrival of the new Ford Fiesta. The revised Colt, therefore, has its work cut out.
This new Colt gets Mitsubishi's signature 'jet fighter' grille, giving the nose a more purposeful look. The revised front end also includes new bumpers and headlamps while, at the rear the five-door gets new darker lamps, a redesigned tailgate and new rear bumper.
Under the skin there have been plenty of changes as well: only 35% of the parts have been carried over from the previous model.
It's larger than before: both the three- and five-door Colt are 70mm longer than the outgoing model, even though the basic platform is almost the same.
Mitsubishi have kept a straightforward line-up with three trim levels available - CZ1, CZ2 and Ralliart in both three- and five-doors. All are better equipped than before and significantly cheaper than its well-established rivals, but is this enough to keep the fresh-faced Colt in the running?
