Category: Superminis
Price Range: £7,664 to £15,999
Neat, sharp and confident looks, versatile cabin, roomy and comfortable, fun to drive, good value.
Thick windscreen pillars, and that's about it.
Comes straight in near the top of the supermini tree.

This latest car to bear the long-running Colt name is a tall supermini in the style of a Honda Jazz, a Toyota Yaris or the Smart Forfour; the Smart, co-developed in the now-dissolved DaimlerChrysler-Mitsubishi partnership, shares 60 percent of its components with the Colt, though the two cars look - and feel - very different. The Colt has been designed and engineered with Europe in mind, and comes in three- and five-door form; plus as a coupe-cabriolet.
The three petrol units begin with a 1.1-litre, three-cylinder unit of 75bhp and progress to two four-pots of 1.3 litres/95bhp and 1.5 litres/109bhp, while the two diesels are 1.5-litre, three-cylinder units of 70 and 95bhp. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard, but an 'Allshift' six-speed sequential and clutchless unit is optional. There's also the 150bhp Colt CZT, a three-door model with a turbocharged version of the 1.5-litre engine; it has slightly sportier styling and stiffer suspension, though it's not an all-out hot hatch or a 'baby Evo'.
