Turbocharged engine option, sporty handling, large luggage space, good headroom
Roof not as clever as some rivals', odd pram-like styling, not that quick, cheap-feeling interior, some scuttle shake
The most powerful of its type, and good fun to drive, but not the prettiest-looking nor most refined

Mitsubishi's Colt CZC is a mini coupe-convertible with a metal power-folding roof and two tiny rear seats. A rival for the Nissan Micra C+C, Peugeot 206/207 CC, Vauxhall Tigra and so on, it is - as yet - the most powerful of its type, with a turbocharged 150bhp 1.5-litre engine. A non-turbo 109bhp 1.5 is also on offer.
Spacious up front, with plenty of headroom, the Colt CZC is practical enough to use as day-to-day transport, with good insulation from the elements. Its roof isn't the cleverest in the class, though, as you do need to manually release a pair of clips at the front before it will retract, rather than simply pressing a button. However, the metal panels make for better safety and security than a traditional canvas hood and they stow away neatly in the boot to provide plenty of luggage space. It's all well thought-out and well-packaged, and the Colt CZC promises to be a rewarding and enjoyable car to own.
UK prices are from £13,999 (1.5) and £15,999 (1.5 Turbo), to include a high level of standard equipment. Deliveries start in April 2006.
