There have been some high-profile celebrity crashes involving SLRs, but there's no suggestion that the cars are to blame, and they've certainly not been breaking down. The engine and gearbox are based on tried and trusted Mercedes components, and most of the rest is constructed from very strong, very light carbon fibre. Each SLR takes about 1,000 hours to build, with much of the work expertly done by hand, and the result feels extremely sturdy.
