Quality feel; nice interior; clever hood; good looks; SLK350's performance; nice manual gearbox
Steering lacks feel, as do brakes; 200K auto a bit asthmatic; could use a version between 200K and 350; isn't cheap
Latest SLK is miles better than model it replaces, and takes the challenge to class-leaders in many areas.

The Mercedes SLK, then. A bit Footballer's Wives, right? First introduced in 1996, it was facelifted with some success in 2000, but image aside, it always had a few drawbacks - a crashy ride, rubbish steering, gravelly four-pot engine, non-adjustable steering wheel. Actually, it had a lot of drawbacks.
But, since 1996, Mercedes has introduced the SL, and a hell of a car that is. So it's reasonable to think that if only a few of the SL's merits were handed down to the latest SLK, the little roadster could be a bit of a cracker, too, could it not? I have good news, dear reader...
