Great automatic gearbox, endless supply of torque, surprisingly compliant ride.
Pricey, not exactly environmentally friendly, disappointing launch control.
One of the best open-top driving experiences (a lot of) money can buy.

As you'd expect from a car that is almost bespoke in its manufacture, the quality of the SL 63 AMG is high. The interior is filled with soft nappa leather (on the standard-fit sports seats and trimming the instrument cluster) and aluminium; there's an ergonomic sports steering wheel with aluminium on the gearshift paddles; and the whole centre console exudes a feeling of high-tech, high-quality futurism, thanks to the generous amounts of carbon-fibre.
The exterior, with its special bodystyling and panels unique to the car, is also of the highest standard, the AMG team taking great care when building each car. The panel gaps are tight and consistent and everything is finished with a high level of attention to detail.
In terms of reliability, there are no major problems outside the minor electrical issues that afflict some cars from Mercedes. Mechanical issues - especially those surrounding the large-capacity, relatively understressed V8 - seem relatively non-existent, but AMGs sell in such relatively small numbers that they don't show up in any of the usual reliability studies, so there's no way of making a definitive claim.
