Price Range: £59,975 to £153,050

Not sufficiently sporty, poor braking, expensive.

Verdict

The SL is in a class of its own as a cruising roadster, but go elsewhere for a sporting experience.

Mercedes SL-Class Review

Safety and Security4 out of 5

There's a full package of active and passive safety measures in the new SL. In the addition to the usual ABS and ESP, there's Active Body Control and adaptive brake light and a new Intelligent Lighting System, first introduced on the latest E-Class, which has different lighting functions for different types of road and uses pivoting adaptive headlights.

If you do happen to be in a crash, there are automatically deployed pop-up roll bars and four airbags - driver, passenger and head/thorax sidebags.

In terms of security, there's the usual alarm system with immobiliser and interior protection and central locking.
