Category: Large 4x4s
Price Range: £30,280 to £75,823
Spacious, comfortable, practical, Mercedes badge.
Not as dynamic to drive as some rivals, manual gearbox awful, diesel a bit noisy.
A good compromise between off-road ability and on-road comfort but feels a little dated.

Off-roaders are coming under fire at the moment (particularly in the States) for their poor stability, as a vehicle with high ground clearance is more likely to roll over than a low-slung, normal car. However, the M-Class has plenty of gadgets and devices to keep you safe: standard driver, passenger and side window airbags, ABS with Brake Assist, electronic stability programme (ESP) and the 4-ETS traction control. Two ISOFIX child-seat mounting points in the back are provided.
