Mind-bending acceleration, big boot, wonderful engine note, plenty of kit.
Expensive to buy and run.
This is perfect for a petrol-head businessman who wants performance as well as practicality.

Estate cars are useful things: they have a big boot where you can carry big things. Golf clubs, dogs, carry cots, picnic baskets, camping gear, big monthly shops need transporting every now and then and if you are carrying all this stuff, you don't really need to go very fast...
Well, not according to Mercedes.
The Merc E63 AMG Estate is, essentially, a posh dragster. There's a 6.3-litre engine under the bonnet that delivers a hearty 525bhp. It's Porsche 911-rivalling quick, but that's not the point of this. You are getting sports car performance as well as something big enough to carry a couple of sets of golf clubs and your shopping.
Merc hasn't confirmed prices yet but expect it to come in at just under £75k. That might make some sense, but it's hardly a status symbol. You want to make a statement and turn some heads? Then go buy a 911 or spend a bit more for a Maserati GranTurismo.
The AMG Estate is understated. It's for people who are smugly well-heeled but don't want to shout from the rooftops about it. It's massively noisy though and if you don't turn some heads as you piledrive by in your 6.3-litre monster then you can safely assume that you have just driven past a gathering for the deaf.
It's also about comfort: the E63 has got it all in terms of gizmos and safety equipment: this is no pared-down rough-rider.
But, is it worth £75k? Read on to find out.
