Summary of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (2009-)

Price Range: £29,324 to £68,409

Assets

Refined, quick and prestigious; excellent new diesels; relatively low fuel consumption and emissions.

Drawbacks

Rather conservative, not a sporting drive.

Verdict

The consummate executive all-rounder, now more fuel-efficient and better value for money.

Mercedes E-Class Estate Review

Used Value4 out of 5

The E-Class is set to return best-in-class residual (resale) values; German forecasters predict a 62.5% return on original new price for the E250 CDI after three years, and British analysts are similarly optimistic.

The diesels will hold their value best, of course, and used buyers will prefer the traditional automatic gearboxes. The E500, however, could well be a big white elephant when it comes to resale time - especially in the glitzy white paint now on the options list. Best keep it conservative to preserve used values.
