Roomy, refined, beautifully built and blessed with fine V6/V8 engines and an exceptional diesel, the E-Class also holds value very well.
But it's pricey, some variants are poorly specified for the money, and the four cylinder petrol engines aren't great.
A wise choice, if not always an exciting one.

The E-Class is comfortable at high speed but a little firm at low speed, even jolting over potholes. Otherwise it is a quiet, restful car in all its forms, and roomy too. The E-Class has generous rear head and legroom and a wide, though rather short, boot with deep storage wells. Oddments space inside is fairly generous. The stereo system is much improved in these latest E-Classes, offering remote fingertip control on many models, and a more thiefproof system uniquely designed for the E-Class. A satellite navigation system is also an option.
