Mercedes Benz E-Class (1995-2002) Review

Category: Executive 2.5 out of 5

Summary of the Mercedes Benz E-Class (1995-2002)

Price Range: £29,324 to £68,409

Assets

Roomy, refined, beautifully built and blessed with fine V6/V8 engines and an exceptional diesel, the E-Class also holds value very well.

Drawbacks

But it's pricey, some variants are poorly specified for the money, and the four cylinder petrol engines aren't great.

Verdict

A wise choice, if not always an exciting one.

Safety and Security3 out of 5

The E-Class performs well in crash tests, and comes with driver, passenger, side and window airbags across the range, although rear side airbags are an option. ABS and traction control come on all versions, as does ESP, which dramatically reduces the possibility of a skid. There are no deadlocks on the E-Class or any other Mercedes: M-B says they impede crash rescuers.
