Running Costs3 out of 5

Servicing intervals are determined by the onboard computer, which should reduce the number of trips to the dealer.

Big Mercs are never exactly cheap to run: better fuel economy and lower emissions come with the refreshed CLS, but it's hardly a planet-saver. The diesel returns a fairly creditable 37.2mpg on the combined cycle and emits 200g/km of carbon dioxide. The 350 CGI returns 31mpg with emissions of 217g/km, but the 500 and the AMG go into tax-busting and fuel-gorging territory.
