Mercedes CLK Cabriolet (2003-) Review

Category: Convertibles 3.5 out of 5

Summary of the Mercedes CLK Cabriolet (2003-)

Price Range: £33,411 to £68,923

Assets

Beautifully engineered, wide choice of engines, smooth auto gearboxes, high equipment levels, solid build and structure

Drawbacks

Not hugely involving to drive, grey plastic in entry-level cabins, some tacky interior finishes

Verdict

The CLK may not suit determined thrill-seekers, but it's a fantastic choice for those who just want to cruise in style

Mercedes CLK-Class Cabriolet Review

Safety and Security5 out of 5

Safety kit includes front and side head/thorax airbags, optional rear side 'bags and clever sensor-controlled rollover bars, which rise up from behind the rear seats if the car senses it's about to tip over. This CLK Cabriolet is around 12 percent stiffer and more rigid than its forerunner, so it should score very well in the Euro NCAP crash tests. There is also a full complement of electronic driver's aids: ABS anti-lock brakes, Brake Assist, ESP electronic stability programme, ASR acceleration skid control and so on. The brakes are uprated as the engines get more powerful up the range.
