Mercedes Benz CLK (1997-2002) Review

Category: Compact Executive 3.5 out of 5

Summary of the Mercedes Benz CLK (1997-2002)

Price Range: £33,411 to £68,923

Assets

Unlike many coupes it actually seats four. It is never less than refined and is still a fairly rare sight due to heavy demand around the globe

Drawbacks

Prices are high as you would expect. The waiting list is also unexpectedly long too

Verdict

Not the sports car that some buyers want, but they can buy elsewhere. Few coupes have this much class

Mercedes CLK-Class Cabriolet Review

Running Costs4.5 out of 5

Not a cheap car to run with major services at 9,000 miles, while fuel consumption hovers around 30mpg. The most impressive CLK numbers are its resale value figures - it retains more of its value over three years than any other car on sale. Insurance premiums are surprisingly reasonable too. This distinctive coupe and convertible has consistently been in demand, fetching more as a premium-priced used car than it did new. And despite the number of customers shopping in Europe for their Mercedes, CLK demand still hasn't caught up. The smaller-engined 200 coupe, and any convertible, are the hot used tickets. The CLK is not cheap, but it is well equipped. Rival coupe's may be cheaper and quicker, but few can match the Mercedes' innate appeal or its deep-rooted quality. Anyway, there is a waiting list, so it must be good value.
