The Sports Coupe hasn't taken off to quite the degree expected, as it's neither an out-and-out sports coupe nor a luxury cruiser - but it's an interesting concept, and a nicely adult proposition for those who have outgrown their hot hatches but who aren't ready for a stodgy saloon.
Driver, passenger and side airbags are standard, plus ABS anti-lock brakes, Brake Assist, ESP (electronic stability programme) and ASR (anti-skid reduction). Like all Mercedes, the SC also meets a very high crash protection standard; the C-Class saloon achieved the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests, so this model should be similarly structurally safe. Security devices include a standard-fit alarm and immobiliser, though of course, the Mercedes star is always desirable to criminals.
