Mazda MX-5 Review

Running Costs4 out of 5

The facelift has given Mazda a good reason to up the ante as far as running costs are concerned.

The minor tweaks have yielded a 7% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and an 8% improvement on fuel economy. Now the 1.8i emits 167g/km of CO2 (down by 6g/km) and returns 40.4mpg (up by 1.7mpg). It doesn't mean you'll pay less in road tax because it's still in tax band E and the improved fuel economy won't mean you can retire to Barbados, but y'know, every little helps.

Insurance groups have yet to be confirmed, but expect it to be the same as the pre-facelift models which were in insurance groups 11, 12 and 13 depending on the model.
