Mazda MX-5 (2005-) Review

Category: Roadsters 5 out of 5

Summary of the Mazda MX-5 (2005-)

Price Range: £15,000 to £19,030

Assets

Entertaining drive regardless of driver ability, style, "wind-in-the-hair" ability, no true rival, folding hard-top roof now available.

Drawbacks

Limited standard kit, soft-edged suspension.

Verdict

Mazda returns with a thoroughly modern interpretation of the classic sportscar, and with nothing else to compare it to, you really can't go wrong.

Mazda MX-5 Review

Reliability and Quality5 out of 5

The MX-5 has, over the years, scored consistently highly in customer satisfaction ratings such as JD Power and also has an excellent reliability record. The only major issues that affected older generations related to the now-defunct (due to legislation) pop-up headlights and sills rusting on early grey Japanese imports.

The cars tested felt extremely well put together, with consistent narrow shutlines inside and out, and expensive materials used throughout the cabin. The manual folding roof on the regular MX-5 - the symbol of simplicity - fits snugly against the windscreen and windows and should remain leak-free. The electronically folding roof of the Roadster Coupe has a pretty simple mechanism (especially compared to others on the market) so should prove trouble free.
