Mazda MX-5 (1998-2000) Review

Category: Convertibles 3.5 out of 5

Summary of the Mazda MX-5 (1998-2000)

Price Range: £15,000 to £19,695

Assets

Sweet engines, flick-switch gearchange, best-in-class handling, good value and cheap to run.

Drawbacks

Slightly contrived styling, 1.6 a bit tardy.

Verdict

Still one of the best, despite its age.

Mazda MX-5 Review

Comfort and Equipment3.5 out of 5

The MX-5 has a comfortable, low-slung driving position and a much more resilient ride than the previous model. With the hood up, wind noise is surprisingly low. The latest cars have more luggage space but it's still not overly generous. On top of that you get door bins, a reasonable-size glovebox and a locker between the seats. All MX-5s now come with an RDS-equipped Sony radio/cassette. A 10-CD autochanger is optional across the range.
